Abstract

Azzlack is the self-chosen label of a group of German rap artists (the most popular figure being Haftbefehl “detention order”) with a recent migration record. They radically dissociate themselves from conventions and representatives of German society by their hybrid discourse, which paradoxically contributes to their integration because the discourse is consciously adjusted to be in keeping with the market. The transition from street-rap to gangsta-rap is probably meant to meet the expectations of a wider clientele.
