Abstract

This article shows how screen-sharing on Skype with teeming pictures was used to teach German vocabulary to two Greek boys learning German as their second language (L2). Throughout three one-hour online sessions, participants learned five new words each time by discussing situations within the teeming pictures, writing the new words in combination with drawing the corresponding image from the teeming picture, submitting written tests, and participating in synchronous practice via pronunciation checks. According to Nation’s (2001) specifications, the results showed receptive vocabulary growth and suggested minor growth in productive knowledge, with teeming pictures boosting interest and context understanding.
